Block Instagram on iPhone: Take intentional breaks with Doplock
Doplock lets you block the Instagram app on your iPhone for an intentional break. Select Instagram in Doplock, activate the block and use your configured NFC card to unlock. This blocks the entire app, including Reels and direct messages.
Which kind of Instagram block do you mean?
This guide is about pausing your own use of the Instagram app. Blocking another person is a separate function inside Instagram. Doplock does not change your contacts or account settings.
How to block Instagram with Doplock
- Set up Doplock: Download the Doplock iPhone app and follow the setup with your activation code and a compatible NFC card. The Focus Card includes a personal activation code. The separate code requires your own compatible NFC card.
- Select Instagram: Choose Instagram in Doplock as an app to block during your focused time.
- Start your break: Activate the block in Doplock. You could leave the card away from your desk if that suits your routine.
- Return intentionally: Use your configured card to unlock when you decide to open Instagram again.
Check the current Doplock products for device requirements. Doplock currently supports iPhone; Android is planned.
What happens to Reels, the feed and messages?
While Instagram is blocked, you cannot open its contents in that app. Doplock does not provide a Reels-only block with direct messages still available. If you need to reply on Instagram for work, plan your break accordingly. An app block also does not promise to block your Instagram account on other devices or in every browser.

Which approach fits your break?
If you want a daily time limit, consider Apple's Screen Time settings. If you want a physical step before reopening the app, Doplock is one option. Our guide to blocking apps on iPhone compares these approaches.
Try one clear rule
Start with a specific moment: “Instagram stays closed during my first study session.” Afterwards, check whether you switched to the app less often without intending to. Doplock promises neither a fixed time saving nor an impossible-to-bypass block. What matters is whether the additional step supports your own rule in daily life.
Check your device, card and activation
The workflow described here requires an NFC-capable iPhone. Doplock’s App Store listing currently requires iOS 18.0 or later (checked on 31 October 2026). A listing for other Apple devices does not automatically confirm support for NFC card unlocking on those devices. Android is not currently offered as a supported product.
The Focus Card is a physical NFC card with an activation code included. The separately purchased code is digital and does not replace a card: you need your own compatible NFC card. Confirm compatibility before buying. See the Doplock FAQ for more answers and compare the card and code in the shop.
